It’s not often we get to work with world-class clients right in our backyard, but we were delighted to have that opportunity on this project. The Mount Holyoke College Art Museum sought to integrate collections information in a visually dynamic site that would appeal to their student audience. With our partners, Corey McPherson Nash, we are proud to have delivered a beautiful, modern, and totally custom solution that showcases their work and collections.

Challenge:
Showcase Identity, Work, and Collections

We were challenged to present the Museum’s brand-new identity in a way that truly represented the institution’s stature in both the academic and fine art communities. Additionally, the new website needed to be an active part of fulfilling the museum’s objectives related to access and educational programming.

Solution:
Drupal & Integrated Collections Data

Drawing on our expertise with digital repository tools, we architected the new Drupal CMS to draw object metadata from the Five College Consortial Collections Database, as well as provide the standard suite of content management tools.

The site itself is fully responsive, supporting a wide range of mobile and tablet devices, and elegantly matches the museum’s printed materials. We selected Pantheon for hosting to preserve their operating budget while providing rock-solid performance and security.

Outcome:
Awards and Access

We’re proud to say that our work for the museum earned both regional AdClub and national Interactive Media Award recognition. The new website elevated the institution’s digital identity, and offers full interactive access to collections highlights, exhibition information and educational materials. Ultimately, we found satisfaction in providing a modern method for delivering on the museum’s 140-year-old mission.

Six months after launch, site visitors are now spending 59% longer on the site and viewing 104% more pages. We continue to provide support, maintenance, and continuous enhancement services on retainer with the museum.
